New 60 Hudson Colo Site
Completed Dec. 1, 2008, Sirius Telecom has added another 7,000 square feet of prime colocation space at 60 Hudson Street, New York. With brand new UPS facilities and new generator located on the first floor, this is a premier colo site, with intra-buliding connectivity to every major tenant including TelX, FiberNet, Level 3, Global Crossing, Qwest, Verizon, AT&T, Tata, RCN, MetCom, and Ascent.
750 KW Diesel Generator
The new Sirius Telecom diesel generator is ready to provide backup power with an ATS (automatic transfer switch) integrated between commercial power and generator power.
Ceiling Removal Underway
Renovations basically start at the top and work down. Here the ceiling removal is underway. All new ceiling tiles, light fixtures and supports will be replaced.
Leibert 20 Ton HVAC Units
Here, three Leibert 20 ton air conditioning units are undergoing complete refurbishment, maintenance, testing and turn up.
Each Leibert HVAC unit gets top to bottom attention.
New 150 KVA Emerson UPS
Sirius colo site at 60 Hudson NYC has a reinforced floor to accommodate two 150 KVA UPS units. Pictured here is the first Emerson unit delivered to the site.
Additional Emerson UPS Cabinets
The initial 150 KVA system was delivered brand new in 2008.
Emerson UPS System Positioned for Installation
Due to the weight of the Emerson UPS systems, because every cabinet has batteries for emergency backup power, a steel foundation is installed on the raised, reinforced flooring first. Each cabinet is carefully hoisted and then set into position. Only after all the cabinets are connected together and anchored, is the immense task of wiring begun. This job took over four months to complete.
Emerson UPS Suspended in Air by Hoists
Jacoby Electric, union electricians with vast installation experience at 60 Hudson NYC, gingerly move the new Emerson UPS cabinet into it's final position.
First Emerson UPS Cabinet Moved In
Jacoby Electric along with DP Facilities work to position the first of several cabinets of the Emerson 150 KVA UPS system.

New UPS unit must look new so it was wrapped to protect it's surfaces.
Breaker Panel From UPS System
This is an early picture of power distribution breaker panels located throughout the new Sirius colo facility at 60 Hudson, suite 1213. When finished, it will have 20 and 30 amp breakers, capable of delivering 110 volt service as well as 208 volt service.
Emerson UPS Completely Positioned, Power Output Underway
Now that the Emerson UPS system is anchored to the raised and steel reinforced floor, work will commence on the power output to be connected to the breaker distribution panels located throughout the Sirius colo facility.
Emerson UPS System Wiring
The long process of positioning and anchoring the UPS cabinets completed, the next step is to wire the internal battery strings together as well as connect all the cabinets together.
Ceiling Removed for Electical Installation
Power output from UPS system in this picture is about to be run through conduits built in the ceiling to distribution panels conveniently located throughout the colo facility.
Another Breaker Panel
This distribution panel is located in the colo facility designed for cages. 5 x 10 and 10 x 10 cages will be constructed adjacent to this panel. Several telecom carriers have already contracted for 10 x 10 cages to colocate their next-gen switches in the site.
Transformer Installed Suite 1215
We can't quite figure out why we had to install this, but we paid big bucks for after being told it was a must have. Besides, we thing our competitors might have one so we didn't want to be left out. We were told not to touch it once it is powered up. If you know what it is, please email us and we'll send you a new Sirius Telecom coffee cup, which is brand new, just like this thing.
We're pretty sure this is a 480V to 208 volt, three phase transformer.
If only this apprentice electrician hadn't pressed the fast forward button on the lift, because he had no idea the incredible speed of 50 mph could be achieved.

Diesel Fuel Room For Sirius Telecom Generator
After the tragedy of 9/11, severe limitations on fuel storage above the ground floor were enacted for all buildings in New York City. The result is that many legacy generators for telecom sites only have limited operating backup time due to the constraints of fuel. Hand carrying fuel to resupply a generator in a power outage or other emergency is typically not practical due to weight constraints and the number of floors required to be climbed via stairs. The Sirius solution was to locate the generator and a separate fuel facility which could be resupplied at ground level.

150 KVA Emeson UPS System Ready for Testing
After four months of installation, the Emerson UPS is now ready for testing. The batteries are installed, the electronics have been tested, and once a thorough test plan is completed, the UPS will be activated and thus put into service.
All testing and turn up procedures are completed. Now that the UPS is activated, air conditioning units must be operational 24 x 7.
Dec. 1, 2008 of Newly Commissioned Colo Space
This photo will be outdated within a week as several carriers and enterprise clients have signed up for space at this site and have already started shipping racks, servers and network gear to suite 1213 for installation.
Designated Cabinet Colo Area
In this area of the newly commissioned Sirius colo site, suite 1213 60 Hudson building, Sirius will install 42 RU self contained lockable cabinets, capable of housing 36 inch deep servers or other nework/telecom gear. Sirius will also offer autonomous half cabinets custom applications. All cabinet clients will enjoy 24 x 7 secured access to the site. 60 Hudson and Sirius Telecom offer a high degree of security. Photo ID and credentials are necessary to enter the building itself, and an additional card key is required to enter suite 1213. There is video surveillance throughout the building as well as the Sirius colo site. Additionally, Sirius has technicians on site.
Advanced Fire Suppression System
Although we installed a pre-action fire suppression system which is also tied into the 60 Hudson fire life safety system, we couldn't resist the hardware salesman downstairs who told us we could be our own one-man fire department with the nifty apparatus. Although tempted to test it on each other during late nights of construction, we resisted and this excellent fire-fighting tool diligently ready to come to the rescue.
